Apple orchards play an important part in the Hudson Valley landscape. But also a confusing one. There is no single way to manage an orchard, and it is difficult to understand the different growing practices and certifications.

Nutshell Projects created a comprehensive report for a landowner in the Hudson Valley, outlining different possibilities for managing an apple orchard as well as the associated certifications, with recommendations and action-steps based on over twenty interviews with local growers, extension agents, regional fruit experts, and technical assistants. The report also listed grants and other financial resources available to growers interested in transitioning to more ecological apple care.
